Demented, sugary chaos – I guess that’s how I picture this new song written by my cousin Nate Graves (aka Kurtz). We started working on it back in April, but we got stuck trying to add percussion. I originally thought a steady Radiohead-esque beat would work, but it felt kind of plodding to me. So I’m really glad Nate took a shot at it, because he came up with some crazy and unique rhythms.
I also just realized how disgustingly appropriate this song is for the Christmas shopping season.

We want your thoughts
We want your sad, selfish thoughts and prayers
And a list of the things you buy
We want your hope
We want your cruel, anxious hopes and dreams
And a list of the things you buy
Dress up our flesh
In burial masks
Scale our skin in this pixilation
Atrophied mass
Pre-recorded, senseless simulcast human
Hack me up a neural pin
Graphed in points in sets of ten
Give me rest
From your focus tests
Sell me something I will never need
Give me relief
From your marketing sheets
Sell me something that will kill me
Dimensional hoards
Sacchrinized and bored
Skipping irises
Ceaseless, greasy joints
If you’re digging this style, here’s another song Nate and I collaborated on for my Song a Week project.
