Experiments in the Revival of Organisms: A Trailer

Experiments-In-The-Revival-Of-Organisms-A-Trailer

A short film of mine premiered last night at St. Paul’s Northern Spark festival, with the short film group I contribute to called MNKino. The theme was “arrivals and departures,” and I had no idea what I was going to make until midnight the night before it was due. I was browsing archive.org and found a disturbing, but fascinating 1940 film documenting experiments on reviving dogs from the dead. Dr. S.S. Bryukhonenko of the U.S.S.R drained all the blood from dogs, so their heartbeat and breathing was stopped for around 10 minutes. He then pumped blood back into their system and revived them, after which the dogs lived normal, healthy lives for years.

I cut together a sort of trailer for the film, using the song I produced with my cousin Nate Graves of Kurtz: “Everything Burns Alike.” A word of warning – there are some disturbing images in this video.

At the beginning of the MNKino screening, there were some really young kids watching the short films. Luckily they left before mine came up!
