Last week, I asked my Composer Quest patrons to join me in an online jamming experiment. My friend Alex pointed out Plink, a cool site that lets you jam with random people on the internet. By adding a hashtag to the URL (#cqpatronjam), we were able to have our own “chat” room. Here’s the video:
The interesting thing about this jam session is that we had no way to communicate other than through the little musical dots. It seemed like half the time we were communicating just through sounds (trying to match each others’ rhythms, pitches, etc.), and half the time we were communicating visually (following each others’ visual patterns or colors). There were some really cool moments when we would all sync up on a certain color, like:
Thanks everyone for the fun jam session! Next time we’ll try something new. If you’re interested in becoming a Composer Quest patron and participating in these random experiments, visit composerquest.com/patron.
