I’m going to be speaking on a couple of upcoming panels about crowdfunding, so I thought I’d share some statistics about Patreon, and my Composer Quest patronage. Hopefully these stats will give you a little insight if you’re thinking about launching your own Patreon project.

Kickstarter vs. Patreon

2013

  • Kickstarter: $480 million pledged, 19,911 projects successfully funded
  • Patreon: $259,000 pledged to creators

2014

  • Kickstarter: $529 million pledged, 22,252 projects successfully funded
  • Patreon: Over $10 million pledged to creators

As of April 10, 2014, Patreon had 15,000 creators and 50,000 patrons

Patreon Pledging Stats
From all Patreon users, as of September 26, 2014

  • $1 pledges account for 33% of all pledges (and 5.2% of earnings)
  • $5 pledges account for 22% of all pledges
  • $10 pledges account for 10% of all pledges (33% of earnings from $5 and $10 combined)
  • $10 pledges and below account for 90% of all pledges (50% of earnings)
  • $50+ pledges account for 2% of all pledges (26% of earnings)
  • $100+ pledges account for 0.65% of all pledges (15% of earnings)

My Patreon Stats

Patronage of the Composer Quest podcast, as of January 21, 2015

Total Patreon patrons: 37

  • $3/episode reward: 10 patrons (3 donated more than $3/episode)
  • $2/episode reward: 9 patrons
  • $1/episode reward: 10 patrons (1 donated more than $1/episode)
  • Chose to receive no reward: 8 patrons (donations range from $0.05/episode to $10/episode)

Before setting a goal (86 patrons or $150 per episode to create Season 4 of my podcast):

  • 16 patrons joined (over the course of ten months)
  • Average donation of new patrons: $1.75/episode

After setting a goal:

  • 21 patrons have joined (over a month and a half)
  • Average donation of new patrons: $2.62/episode
  • One patron upped his donation from $3 to $10
