I’m excited to say that over 70 people have signed up for the “I Barely Survived That Game Jam” game jam. We have SIX CONTINENTS covered, including participants from Brazil, Taiwan, Australia, South Africa, Norway, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Macedonia, India, UK, Canada, and the US. After forming teams based on everyone’s skill sets, it looks like we’ll have 17 games in progress this week. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!
We’ll be having a kickoff party on Friday in Minneapolis to meet fellow teammates, brainstorm, etc. I encourage those of you not in Minnesota to join in by tweeting the hashtag #GRJam.
If you’re not participating but want to see and play the results of this jam, join us at Gamer’s Rhapsody on Friday, November 13th at 7pm.
There were a lot more composers than game developers, but I think I’ve figured out a way to involve everyone. The solution is that I’m going to *gulp* make a game myself.
The idea sprung from seeing my friend Will’s beautiful pixel art backgrounds. The idea is that each “room” is a totally different location. It might be a meadow, a cavern, or an alien planet, randomly arranged at the beginning of the game. Each composer will get a chance to write music for one of the locations.
The goal of the game will be to get each of the nine pixely characters back to their home, by trading off which character you control. It will be a memory game, but also kind of a gallery of art and music. I told my roommate Pat Smith about the idea, and he came up with the awesome title “Pixels at an Exhibition.”
