Stories I Didn’t Know, the documentary I scored last year about the entanglement of Irish immigrants and Native people of Minnesota, will be airing on TPT – Twin Cities PBS.
- Monday, March 22 at 9 pm on TPT 2
- Sunday, March 28 at 4 pm on TPT 2
There will also be a virtual discussion with filmmakers Rita Davern and Melody Gilbert on Sunday, March 28 at 5pm, about the themes of the film – European ancestors taking Native land, and how we deal with that today.
My soundtrack is available for free on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
I just watched the emotional and moving documentary STORIES I DID NOT KNOW on IDAHO P.B.S…..my favorite…..from my home in Soap Lake, central Washington.
It really tore at my heartstrings with my County Cork, Ireland heritage to the 100 year family farm I was raised on in Allamakee County Iowa….just So. Of the Minn. Border and across the river from Wisconsin. I am almost 79 years old and as long as I can remember I have wondered who the first people were on “our land”. We weren’t taught that history in school too much at all, but I assumed it was Winnebago. But I do know Winnebago people were run out of Illinois and Wisconsin across the river at that horrible BATTLE OF THE BAD AXE, near DeSoto, Wisc
A place that is always cold to me, even visiting in 90 degree weather. Hence the awfulness of what happened. I’m pretty sure old Chief Waukon-Decorah was Winnebago.
No one else in the family had the interest. They used to say I must have been adopted from a native tribe. I was complimented. The farm was sold after 100 years and most of family
Is around LaCrosse, Wisc. now.
And lots of O’Callaghan cousins at Wexford, Iowa….Alamance Co.
Rich history throughout. I do not have a computer, but I do have a smart phone and would love more stories about the same.
Thank you. I am so moved.
